Barbara Ann Eilert, age 86, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Kingston Memory Care in Perrysburg. Barbara was born on February 22, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Gilbert and Anna (Olson) Johnson.
Barbara graduated from DeVilbiss High School and then worked as a secretary for Eastman, Stichter & Smith Law Firm, from 1954 to 1962. After the law firm, she worked as a homemaker, taking care of her husband, children, and home. Barbara was an avid ice skater. Barbara enjoyed watching skating as much as participating. She would tape as many shows as she could on tv, while also going to various skating shows in person, like Holiday on Ice with friends or the grandkids.
Barbara enjoyed swimming. The summer ritual was taking her sons to Bowman Pool where the kids would have a blast swimming and playing while Barbara would get her laps in on the 15 minute breaks when the pool was cleared of kids.
A devoted Christian, Barbara was a member of Holy Cross Church. She volunteered on many committees and church functions. Barbara took much pleasure in being a Sunday school teacher for many years. She enjoyed watching church member's kids go through her classes and grow up into adults.
Barbara loved traveling. When the kids were young and at home, trips to Michigan, Tennessee and Colorado were some of the places visited. When the kids were older, Barbara traveled more with her husband and their friends or with just the two of them for weekend getaways. One of Barbara's favorite trips was a trip to Hawaii, as she mentioned for many years how much she wanted to go there. Bus trips for musical concerts were the travel of choice later in life. Be it with friends or on her own, Barbara would always like to be with people and would talk with a stranger like she knew them for years!
Barbara also enjoyed exercising with her friends and then going out to lunch with them afterwards. She kept up on the exercise into her 80s.
Most of all, she loved and cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her smile, love, and care will forever be missed by all who knew her.
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her sons, Larry (Julie) Eilert and Steven Eilert; and two grandchildren, Cody and Mary Rose.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 51 years, Lowell Eilert.
Private family services will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 S Detroit Ave, Toledo, OH 43609.
