Aslene McGinister, age 72, passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Saturday evening, April 8, 2017. She was born on March 20, 1945 to Johnny and Catherine (Hunt) Parnell in Osceola, Arkansas. Aslene was a hard worker, always providing and taking care of her family. At the age of 30 she accepted Christ into her life and she had strong faith in Our Lord and Savior. She operated a local bridal shop for a few years and later a daycare out of her home for over 12 years. Most recently, Aslene owned and operated a group home for residents with special needs. No matter what Aslene did, she poured her heart and soul into her work and it showed in the care that she provided to others.
When she wasn't working she enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie with her loving husband of nearly 46 years, Jeff H. McGinister. Later in life she looked forward to going on long car rides with her husband and tending to their vegetable garden. Aslene was also a talented artist and seamstress and she loved getting her nails done by her granddaughter, Cassandra. Her family will remember her for being one of the most selfless women they know, always giving and nurturing others until the very end.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Jeff. H. McGinister; children, Kenny (LaTonya) McGinister, Kim McGinister and Stacy (Blaine) McGinister-Thomas; many precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Curtis, Earnest (Longine), Joseph (Tasha), Aundra, Tracy, John, Thressa and Lessie B (Charlie); many close cousins, friends, sisters in law, daycare family and church family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, MaryLynn; granddaughter, Shenetta; siblings, Margaret, Leon, Bobby and R.C.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Her burial service will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
