Artis Whitlock, Jr.

Artis Whitlock, Jr., age 69, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was born September 13th, 1950 in Valdosta, Georgia to Artis and Carrie (Bruton) Whitlock, Sr. Artis was employed with various companies throughout the area until he was injured and not able to work.
Artis will be remembered by his family as a "jack of all trades". He was a Steel Press Operator for several years, then became an accomplished mechanic and painter. His faith and his love for God was so important to him he engaged in being a trustee of his church. One of the joys in life was taking care of children, doing all he could to make sure that no child went without what they needed.
Artis was a loving husband, father and grandfather, leaving his family with fond memories of family vacations to Sea World, Kings Island and the mountains camping. He also enjoyed getting together with family and friends hosting barbecues. Artis was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the New England Patriots.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Garrett and Lamont Whitlock and grandson, Antonio Rodgers.
Artis is survived by his loving daughters, Cherise F. (Rushonda) Whitlock; Rosalind and Kristi; son, Marvin; children, Tre'Shawn, Larry, Jr., Rashane, Orrin and Ronnekwa; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia, Pauline, Phyliss, Larry, Raymond, Warren and Jacqueline and his wife, Barbara.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Wednesday, August 12th, 2020 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer- NW Chapel (419-473-0300).
