Artie Gross, age 95, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at home surrounded by loving family. She was born on December 6, 1924 to Harrison "Doc" and Artie (MacDonald) Smith in Marks, Mississippi. Artie was a longtime member of Friendly Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an excellent cook. Artie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Artie is survived by her loving daughter, Brenda J. Smith; grandchildren, Akeya (Warren) McQueen, Marlin (Nicole) Gross, Ronae Garrison, Jala Gross, and Brandi Broadnax; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters; brothers, Leslie Smith, of Little Rock, AK and Sylvester Smith, of Holly Grove, AK; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gross; children, Guy H. Gross, Senell Gross and Marshall J. Mayfield; granddaughter, Kenya J. Smith; brothers, William, Timothy, Renzy and L.A. Smith; and sister, Susie B. Williams.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. (Masks are required with social distancing).
