Arthur A. "Red" Engel, age 61, of Luna Pier, MI, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe. He was born on December 6, 1945 to Arthur J. and Elizabeth A. (Wain) Engel in Toledo. Red was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #193, the EDA, the Planning Commission and a Volunteer of the Fire Department, all in Luna Pier. Red was also a member of the Damascus/Collingwood Masonic Lodge 643. He was retired from Local 50 Pipe fitters and Dupont. His favorite hobby was being a member of the Monroe Good Time Cruisers Car Club and restoring his hot rods. Red will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He took his grandson Jake in and raised him as his own.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Linda. Red is survived by his loving wife: Linda (Dusseau) Engel; son: Brian (Donna) Engel; step-daughters: Sonya (Chuck) Comer and Jamie (Jeff) Schultz; grandchildren: Cameron and Kristyn; step-grandchildren: Jake, Jackie, Matt and Jacey; step-great-granddaughter: "Baby"; mother: Elizabeth A. Engel; sister: Shirley (Mario) DeFrancesco; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, March 5, 2007 at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) from 2 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home, followed by Luna Pier Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard Services at 6:30 p.m. and Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. Officiating will be Mario DeFrancesco.
