Guests are invited to join the family on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Warren A.M.E. Church, with a Wake from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., with Funeral Services beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the church with Rev. Otis J. Gordon, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery.

Arthur D. Lanier passed away on October 22, 2011 in Houston, Texas. He was born in Savannah, GA to Arthur and Ola (Bell) Lanier, Sr. He was raised in Toledo, Ohio where he attended Scott High School and later graduated from the University of Toledo. On June 25th, 1950, Arthur Lanier married Ms. Bette Jane Clemons and together they had two daughters, Drusilla and Deborah.

Arthur was a long time city of Toledo Ohio employee serving as Assistant Director of Urban Renewal. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army and was also a long time member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

He served as an active member of his church and community, always willing to serve.

Arthur and his wife, the late Bette Clemons Lanier were charter members of the Toledo Chapter of the Squaws & Braves Inc. which later became known as the Charms & Charmers, Inc. They were also members of the local Chapter of Jack and Jill. Arthur served on many boards throughout his life including The Frederick Douglas Community Association, The YMCA, The NAACP, ONYX and the J. Frank Troy Senior Center.

Throughout his life, Arthur was a true gentleman, a caring and extraordinary family man who lived and gave every breath of life to his loved ones. He was an avid reader with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He wanted to learn, understand and then educate all those who sought the power of knowledge.

Arthur D. Lanier was preceded in death by his Wife - Bette Clemons Lanier, Daughter - Drusilla Lanier and Twin Brother - Henry Lanier.

He leaves in God's care, his loving Daughter, Deborah Lanier Pettway, Son-in-Law, Hollis Pettway, Jr., Granddaughter, Autumn Lanier Pettway and Great Grandson, Mason M. Lanier. He also leaves his special niece, Ina James Toliver and many other dear relatives and friends.

Arthur's family thanks Dr. Akira Nishikawa and Dr. Joanne Bednarz-Prashad and the Memorial Hermann, Texas family for their exceptional care and service.
