Arnold J. "Arnie" Kurek, age 80, of Toledo and North Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2014 at Foundation Park Care Center. Arnie was born on December 10, 1933 to Dominic and Lucy (Pluciniczak) Kurek in Toledo. He was a graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School. Arnie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving his country proudly during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Columbia Gas Company as an inspector for over 30 years before retiring. Arnie was a longtime member of the Sylvania and North Fort Myers Moose Lodges, AMVets Post 50, North Fort Myers and Circle 8 Alliance of Poles, Toledo. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Spuyten Duyval Golf Club. Arnie enjoyed entertaining and spending time with his friends and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Kurek and infant daughter, Kristen Kurek, daughter, Ursula Graves; and special friend, Sally Nopper. Arnie is survived by his children, Kerry (Michael) Johnston, Darrah (Ed) Konoff, James Kurek and Michele Kurek; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald Kurek; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fisher; brother-in-law, Jim (Tina) Bodnar; dear friend, Rita Tucholski; his Florida Gang; and many other relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 2 – 5:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
