Archie MarMar, age 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 23, 2004, in the presence of his loving family at the Lake Park Comfort Care Center. He was born October 25, 1914 in Albany, NY, to Jack and Jenny (Strong) MarMar. Archie was a graduate of Burnham High School, Sylvania, and attended the University of Toledo. He was known to many Toledoans as Professor Archie Blackstone, in that he was a professional dancer and entertainer, including master of ceremonies at several night clubs and ballrooms in the Toledo area, most notably the Triannon Ball Room, in the 1930's and 1940's. He served in the U.S. Army 718th Railway Operating Battalion overseas during WWII. After discharge, Archie worked at the Jeep Corporation, in a supervisory position, retiring in May, 1975, after 33 years of service. After his retirement, Archie taught several technical courses at Penta County Vocational; as well as a supervisor at Lott Industries. He was 1st president of JMRA (Jeep Management Retirement Association); a member of the Eagles, REACT, PERI, as well as a member of the Alba Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Diana Worshtil.
Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Antoinette MarMar; daughter Ruth (Dennis) Gwynne; stepchildren, Rosemary (Ken) Galdys; Joseph (Kathy) Poskonka; Bernie (Sally) Poskonka; Raymond (Sherri) Poskonka; Thomas (Mary) Poskonka; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother, Joe Marmar, of Miami, FL; nephews, Steven Worshtil; Dr. Eric Worshtil; and Bruce Marmar; beloved cousins Dorothy Dorf and Donna Richman.
The family will receive guests Friday, October 29, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice and Health Care Maumee, OH. or to the charity of the donor's choice.
