Anne Marie (Smahaj) Mrkva

Anne Marie (Smahaj) Mrkva, age 89, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, March 7th, 2010 at Hickory Ridge of Temperance. She was born December 10th, 1920 to Martin and Kathryn (Bures) Smahaj in Elmore, Ohio.

Anne was a very bright and resourceful woman with an unshakeable faith in God. She was left to raise her six children on her own after the untimely death of her husband, Frank, in1966. She did it with courage, strength and unfailing love.

Anne was a joy and a living inspiration to her family and to all those who were blessed to have known her. We will truly miss her.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Mrkva, and brother, Joe Smahaj. She is survived by her children, Libby Mrkva, Frank (Debbie) Mrkva, Joseph (Darla) Mrkva, Michael (Rose) Mrkva, Debbie (Mark) Wisniewski, and James (girlfriend Kelley) Mrkva; grandchildren, Justin Mrkva, Joe (Tiffany) Mrkva, Angie (Mark) Longenecker, Andrew (Nora) Mrkva, Justyn Mrkva, Jenni (Corey) Willinger, Kim (Richard) Mrkva, Beth (Justin) Hayter, Steve Wisniewski, Jill (Michael) Caton, Matt Wisniewski, Nathan Wisniewski, Stephanie (Chad) Martin, Theresa Mrkva, and Christopher Mrkva; 10 great grandchildren; and siblings, Cyril (Joyce) Smahaj, Mary Konecny, Betty Mlynek, Katie (John) Redman, and John Smahaj.

The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-9:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with the Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Hickory Ridge and Erie West Hospice for the loving care and support they provided for Anne, as well as all her dear friends for their love and prayers.
