Anita Louise Baumberger, age 78, of Bryan, passed away, Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 7:52 p.m. at the Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center. She was born on October 23, 1935 to Ivan and Vivian (Bachman) Sower in Wauseon, Ohio. At the age of 13 Anita moved to Reynolds Corners and attended Glann School in the 8th grade, then attended Woodward High School where she graduated in 1953. She was employed at Prudential Insurance Company for over 4 years. Her husband Lee Baumberger joined the U.S. Marine Corps so they lived on both coasts. Anita was a Civil Service employee doing clerical work for 30 years before retiring in 1992. She loved soap operas, game shows, crossword puzzles, playing the slots in casinos and Elvis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Mansfield, June 2008; nephew, James Mansfield, 2009; and son-in-law, Joe Varajao, December 2013. Anita is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lee Baumberger, of Bryan, Ohio; two children, Sherri Varajao, of Bryan, Ohio and Randall (Christine) Baumberger, of Palos Verdes, CA ; grandchildren, Haley and Colin, of Palos Verdes, CA; sister, Charlene (Mel) Pepple, of Adrian, MI; and 8 nieces and 9 nephews.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
