Andy J. Vargyas, age 93, of Sylvania passed away peacefully on the morning of July 4th at home surrounded by family.
He was born in Continental, OH on November 20,1928 to Julius and Julia (Torek) Vargyas. Andy joined the Air Force in 1946 and served through 1949 as a teletype operator. After he was honorably discharged, he worked for New York Central Railroad (Conrail) for over 30 years. He primarily worked as a conductor, but performed other positions throughout his career as well.
In 1953, he married his first wife and together they had 7 children. In 1977 he met and married Rada. They would have celebrated their 45th anniversary later this year.
Andy loved spending time outdoors. His favorite hobbies were working in his garden, caring for his fruit trees, fishing from his boat, hunting with his dogs, playing tennis, and dancing at weddings. He loved a good cup of coffee and tinkering in the garage. According to him, nothing was ever too broken to be fixed. With a tough and ornery exterior, Andy had a soft spot for animals, his grandkids and great grandkids. If you stopped for a visit, you could be sure that his candy dish would always be full.
Left to cherish Andy's memory are his loving wife Rada, his numerous children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The family will receive guests Monday, July 11, 2022 from 10am-1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH 43623. Andy will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park.
