Andrew Chadwick Meadows

June 26, 1921 — December 30, 2013

Andrew Chadwick "Andy" Meadows, 92, of Toledo, died on December 30th, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Andy was born June 26, 1921 in West Branch, Michigan. He moved to Toledo while a young boy and lived there until he was 64 years old.

Andy enlisted in the Army in 1939 when he was almost 18 years old. He served in Panama for over a year. On December 7, 1941 he was waiting to be discharged so he could return home. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and his furlough was cancelled. He was later sent to England and his unit participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. He went on to serve throughout Europe and was in Germany when the war ended.

Upon returning to Toledo after the war, Andy found employment at Plaskon/Allied Chemical where he worked for 37 years until his retirement. It was there he met Mary Louise Ward and they married in 1946. The two spent many summer vacations traveling across the country with their two daughters. Many trips were made in the old Ford station wagon heading west to such places as Yellowstone National Park. Once the girls had grown, Andy and Mary continued their love of travel. Two of their favorite vacations were to the Hawaiian Islands and San Francisco. They were married for 36 years until her death at the young age of 58 in 1982.

Andy married Margaret Earnhart and moved to Dalton, Georgia in 1986. He lived there for 26 years before returning to Toledo in 2012 to be near his daughters. He resided at the West Park Place retirement home for 18 months.

Throughout his life Andy was a devout member of the Church of Christ.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Geneva (Scott) Meadows; sisters, Juanita Meadows and Dorothy Cobb and brother, Ralph Meadows.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughters, Andrea Meadows and Jan (Dennis) Tucholski; step-children, Gary (Judy) Earnhart, Vikki Farley and Dan (Linda) Earnhart; sisters, Glenna Conn, Garnett (Harold) Rueter and Cindy Holey; grandchildren, Holly (Randy) Burch and Christopher Zielinski; great-grandson, Kieran Burch; step-grandchildren, Mike and Bryan Earnhart, Justin Farley, Shannin Burns, Ashley and Lee Earnhart; numerous nieces and nephews and step-great-grandchildren.
