Alvin E. Van Fleet
"Van"
Alvin E. Van Fleet, age 79, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2007 in his home. He was born on June 15, 1928 to William and Grace (Pevey) Van Fleet in Jackson, MI. Alvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a truck driver for almost 28 years, retiring from Toledo Frigid Lines. Alvin was a member of the Teamsters Local 20, the Fraternal Order of the Eagle Area 197, the Zenobia Shrine, Masonic Lodge in Jackson, MI and was a 32nd Degree Mason since 1965. He was also the past president of the Shrine Lancer Unit.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rachel Frances Van Fleet, daughter, Nancy Kay Van Fleet, brothers, Duane and William "Melvin" Van Fleet and sister, Delma Barber. Alvin is survived by his loving family, children: Daniel (Roxanne) Van Fleet and Sue (Dan) Mac Dermid; grandchildren: Rachel, Dallas and Denver; great-grandchild: Taylor; sisters: Letha (Oscar) Ousley and Dorothy McCrum; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, August 27, 2007 in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, (419-473-0300) from 2 – 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Henrietta, Jackson Co., MI.
