Alma Bender

Alma C. Bender, age 107, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Sunset Village. She was born on April 22, 1900 to John and Caroline Friemoth in Ottoville, Ohio being the 7th of 11 children. Alma moved to Toledo in 1925 and met Edward J. Bender and married him in 1939 and had a wonderful marriage for 26 years. She was a longtime member of Gesu Church. Alma enjoyed gardening and crocheting and was an avid card player. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Bender and 10 siblings. Alma is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Peter) Witker and Patricia Sams; grandchildren: Brian (Denise) Holmes, Terry (Kelly) Holmes, Debra (Gerrick) Monroe, Stephen Witker and Elizabeth (Brian) Reynolds; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be held in Alma's memory on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with a gathering beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd., Toledo, 43607. The Newcomer Funeral Home (419-473-0300) assisted the family with professional services.
