Allie Dora Alliman

Allie Dora (Shay) Alliman, age 88, of Pemberville, Ohio, formerly of West Toledo, went home to be with our Lord God Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Otterbein of Portage Valley. She was born on June 11, 1928 to Allie and Beulah (Rayburn) Shay in Highland Park, Michigan. Soon after her family moved back to Soldier, Kentucky where she grew up. Dora attended the Kentucky State School for the Deaf. She met the love of her life at Ohio State School for the Deaf, at a baseball game, Howard Alliman and they married on July 1, 1948. They celebrated 68 wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on September 10, 2016. Dora was a longtime member of the Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church and the Toledo Deaf Club. She enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts and traveling with her husband. Dora loved spending time with her family, especially all of her grandchildren. Dora will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, and loving husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carole Sue, 2010; brother, Edwin Shay; and sister, Geraldine Shay. Dora is survived by her loving son, Thomas Sr. (Diane) Alliman; grandchildren, Thomas Jr. (Lisa), Lisa, James, Jason (Betzi) and Stacie (Steve); and great-grandchildren, Brandan, Lacey, Bernice, Vata, Lydia, Tyler, Leopold and one on the way; and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Shirrel Petzoldt. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Good Shepherd of the Deaf Lutheran Church or Otterbein of Portage Valley.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff, nurses, and aides at Otterbein of Portage Valley for their love, care and support given to Dora and Howard during their time there.
