Alfonso R. Teniente, 87, of Toledo Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 29, 1930, to Antonio and Gregoria Teniente in San Antonio Texas. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, during which time he developed an interest in flying and subsequently obtained his pilots license. He was a skilled concrete laborer and retired from Skyline Concrete Floor Corp.
Always willing to help anyone, he was a talented handy man who enjoyed working on repair projects. "Uncle Poncho" as he was called by family and friends, also enjoyed journaling and gardening, but mostly spending time with his family and passing on the skills and values he learned from his father. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren at their various sporting games and made sure to never miss an important event.
Preceding Alfonso in death were his parents and siblings Estefana, Antonio and Gregoria. He is survived by his wife Estella, who he was happily married to for 64 years, his children Alfonso (Judy) Teniente Jr, Linda (Doug) McCrury and Daniel (Angel) Teniente, his siblings Pedro Teniente, Alvina Costilla and Lucy Barron and 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 p.m.
