If the measure of a person's life is in the number of those who mourn and grieve when they are gone, Alexa Hamernik who left this world on October 31, 2022 at the tender age of 23, was truly the richest young woman in the world.
Born on February 28, 1999 in Toledo, Ohio to Danielle (Pickard) and Martin Hamernik, Alexa, or Lexi as she was known to many, came into the world with so much to share and teach to everyone who was blessed to know her.
From a young age, Lexi faced significant life-threatening health challenges, and yet through it all, she never lost her zest for living every moment to its fullest. Fun-loving, bubbly with a true-heart of gold, Lexi was a determined ray of hope and sunshine.
A lover of travel, Alexa enjoyed amazing exploits including a weekend trip to Nashville to compete for The Voice and a two-month journey to Hawaii to spend her days in a beach-front AirBNB while cruising the islands in a convertible. Lexi also frequented the beaches of Florida and the mountains of Colorado and was always planning her next adventure.
Lexi loved spending time with her family and friends, and was especially close to her grandfather, Darrell Pickard, who passed away two years ago. From playing Animal Crossing with her little brothers, to dance parties, laughing to singing with her friends, Lexi was known to family and friends alike to not only be smart, beautiful, and kind-hearted, but silly and funny and full of mischief.
Lexi is survived by her Mother, Danielle (Jesse) Goebel; her second mother, Angelica (Ed) Ziems, her loving and devoted fiancé, C.J. Stearns; and her canine daughter, Bailey; brothers, Justin Douglas, Ethan Sawdy, Brayden Douglas, Mason Douglas, Chase Douglas, Kaiden Goebel, Storm Heckman and Richard Hamernik, sisters, Jessica Hamernik and Araya Goebel; grandparents, Robin Pickard and Linda Hamernik; best friends, Savana Walker, Brittney Hersey, Katie Kregulka, Melanie Ackerman, and Demetrius Vasquez; a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, numerous friends; and father, Martin (Danielle) Hamernik.
Lexi was a 2017 graduate of Whitmer High School, and was licensed as a State Registered Pharmacy Technician in April, 2022.
