Alan "Bear" E. Frank, age 60, a longtime resident of Michigan and the Toledo area, passed away Sunday, July 19th, 2009 at his beloved cottage on Indian Lake. He was born April 28th, 1949 to Arthur and Ednabelle (Cotter) Frank in Springfield, Ohio. Alan was a salesman with Nabisco Inc. for 23 years. In 2001, he began a career as an Environmental Resource Trainer working through the University of Findlay. He and his wife Diane enjoyed spending many years on the water in Belle Center, Ohio on Long Island at Indian Lake, where he was a member of the Indian Lake Watershed Project. Alan loved spending time on his boat and made many lasting friendships over the years. He was a member of Bay View Yacht Club and a retired member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Alan was a recipient of a Lifesaving B Award from the Coast Guard. He also enjoyed the Florida Keys where he and a good friend helped pull-in a record breaking 69 pound Cobia in 1992. Not long after that Alan hit a "hole-in-one" at Fallen Timbers Golf Course. Most importantly Alan cherished the time he was able to spend with the love of his life, his wife Diane and his canine companions, Maggie Mae and Bella Rose.
"Bear" was a very loving and kind man. His kindness will continue through his actions of giving of himself through the Community Tissue Services of Dayton, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by his step-father, Melvin C. Dawson and mother-in-law, Violet Rose LaGrange. He is survived by his loving wife with whom he was to celebrate 25 years of marriage on July 25th, Diane (LaGrange) Frank and many very special and dear friends, nieces, nephews and extended Indian Lake Family members.
