Alan Edward Cramer was a numbers guy. He would want you to know that he died at 4:10 p.m., on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, Ohio. He spent a total of 25,287 days on this earth. He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He was the son of Herbert Edward and Naomi Frances (Tiller) Cramer. Along with his parents, Alan was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Cramer and Sandra West. Survivors include two more sisters, Carol (Tom) Ryall and Deborah (Jim) Stout. He served in the military in Germany, from 1971 to 1973, as a company clerk. Alan never married or had children, but he was a glorious uncle to Carrie Anne, Patrick, Kevin, Jon, Aaron, Lisa, George, Bill, Christina, Jessica, Will and Naomi. He loved the holidays and celebrations with family and friends. He always enjoyed the Tiller and Peth family reunions. He liked to fish with his dad and brother-in-law Tom, and then devour the feasts his mother would then prepare.
Alan was well known for his knowledge of sports trivia. He rooted for his favorite teams, the Packers, Tigers, Blue Jackets and the Buckeyes. He enjoyed fantasy football and was grateful when his friend Bob K. took over his league this year. He liked to play cards, backgammon and dominoes, especially with his friend and army buddy, Bair Ski, aka, Groucho. They made yearly trips to Vegas for poker tournaments. Swapping corny jokes with his Russian buddy, Leonard, was another favorite pastime for Alan. He would always repeat the punch line. With his extraordinary way with numbers, Alan would never forget a birthday. He sent out birthday cards to a great many people. He would always say that he might forget a name, but never a birthday.
Alan tended bar at the 19th Hole on Sylvania Avenue for 35 years. His 19th Hole family included Cinnamon Sue, Jon, Mr. and Mrs. Fathead, the Russian, the Schoolmarm, Shannon, Walter, Pam, Barb, the Mailman, and his special friends, Liz, the young one and Janet, the fat one.
Alan made friends wherever he went. He was an honest man, a good soul. He will sadly be missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive visitors Saturday December 29, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer - NW Chapel 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300).
