Agnes Hummel

Agnes E. Hummel, age 70 of Toledo passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 4, 1934 to Lawrence and Mary (Revard) LaFountain in Carleton, Michigan. Agnes married Thomas D. Hummel on Feb. 1, 1958. She was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church where she attended grade school. She went on to graduate from Waite High School. Agnes attended St. Vincent School of Nursing, receiving her Nursing Degree. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital for more than 35 years and thoroughly enjoyed working with all of her buddies in the Burn Unit. Agnes was instrumental in the development and success of the Regional Burn Center at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She truly cherished the time spent with family and friendships she built over the years. Agnes will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas D. Hummel; son, Stephen Hummel; sister, Mary Fallon; brother, Ed LaFountain and "mother", Rose Weiss. She is survived by her loving children, Gregory; Kimberly (John) Hummel-Szymanski; Tim; Mark Hummel and John Shiffert; grandchildren, Thomas; Kevin and Erica Szymanski; siblings, Larry (Ann) LaFountain; Joe (Audrey) LaFountain; Ann (Evans) McGunagle; Al (Betty) LaFountain and Paul (Betty) Weiss. Also surviving are a tremendous number of nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear, dear friends.

The family will receive guests Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 5153 Summit St. Officiating will be Fr. Gerald Chmiel. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.

The Hummel Family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the loving care and compassion they showed to their Mom.

Memorial contributions may be made to Burn Unit, Burns Recovery c/f St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center or to NW Ohio Hospice or to the charity of the Donor's Choice.
