Abelardo G. Camacho, age 73, passed away on August 13, 2016.
Born March 1, 1943 in Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines to Zosimo and Pacencia Camacho, Abelardo was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. His early years were spent in the Philippines where he completed his education with a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology from Centro Escolar University. He moved to Canada, immigrated to the US, and eventually settled in Maumee, Ohio where he would establish a family and career. He worked in the clinical labs of the Toledo Health and Retiree Center and eventually retiring from The Toledo Hospital.
While he had many hobbies such as gardening, cooking and crafting, his real passion was community service. He was one of the initial volunteer fireman and EMT in the Springfield #3 Fire Station. As a part of the Ohio Military Reserves, he achieved a rank of Lieutenant Colonel, retiring at maximum service age. Quick to lend a hand, He served on many local and national disaster teams such as the American Red Cross disaster recovery team. He was active with SCORE (Special Commission on Relief & Education) of the Filipino Association of Toledo as well as PAGES (Philippine American Group of Educators and Surgeons) where he was able to use his skills and passion on medical missions locally and in his homeland.
Abelardo is survived by his sisters, Amor, Mila, and Irma; wife, Flora; daughter, Marissa (Ben) DeJesus, their girls Addison, Cassidy, Gabriella; son, Edgar (Sharon) Camacho and their kids Julia and Christopher; grandchildren Brandon, Alex, Derek, Jack, and Archer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Zosimo and Paciencia; his brother, Alberto; and his sons, Mar Achilles and Stephen Phillip.
The family will receive guests on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Parish, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd. in the gymnasium. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery on 5725 Hill Avenue, Toledo, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Toledo S.C.O.R.E. (www.scorefat.com).
