Helen Schifford, 93, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice. She was born on June 11, 1920 to the late Elizabeth and George Handy in Raleigh, West Virginia.
Helen was a life-long devoted and passionate fan of the New York Yankees and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Allen; her nephew, Gary (Coral) Handy who they raised as their son; sisters Eldred Lloyd, Kenova, West Virginia and Jo Ann Carver, Proctorville, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and George Handy; sisters, Eunice Clay, Veda Hager, Nina Handy and Jean Rodriguez; and brother, George Junior Handy.
The family will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m.. A Graveside Service will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: Ebeid ProMedica Hospice or The Cherry Street Mission.
