Paul W. Wenzel, Sr. age 78, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 24, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Ebeid Hospice Residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 7, 1935 to John and Martha (Kordas) Wenzel in Toledo. Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Vicon Supply Company and most recently Tanner Supply Company until he became ill. Paul was an AHC in the door and hardware industry where he worked for over 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1675, serving as Past Commander and was also a past member of the Color Guard. He was also a past president of the Holy Name Society at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, where he was a lifetime member. Paul enjoyed gardening, golfing, art and was a history buff. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Wenzel; and sister, Rosemarie Wenzel. Paul is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Lillian Wenzel; children, Julie (Richard ) Grover, Stephen (Diana) Wenzel, John (Melanie) Wenzel and Paul Wenzel, Jr.; grandchildren, Darlene, April, Richard, Sara, Stephen, Stephanie, John, Thomas "Eric" and Erika; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret (Thomas) Baranoski and Phyllis (Al) Michalak; and sister-in-law, Carol James Wenzel, of Medford, OR; canine companion, Buffy; and many cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home by the Catholic War Veterans Post 1675. Prayers will begin Friday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 3233 Lagrange St., Toledo.
