Robert R "Noodle" Nusbaum, formerly of South Toledo, passed away at age of 88 at his home in Lambertville, Michigan. He was born on October 30, 1924 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert "Ralph" and Marion Crystal Bickford (Older).
Bob attended Waite High School where he met the love of his life, Donna Ruth Winn. They were married October 4, 1944 and were very happily married for 64 years before Donna sadly passed away on February 2, 2009.
Bob was a World War II Army Veteran. His army life began at LeHavre, France. Bob was in the battle of the Bulge where he was in the 1st relief column. He then crossed the Rhine at Ramagen Bridge and continued through Belgium on the way South through Germany and was at Hitler's "Eagle Nest" in the Alps. He was also in Salzburg for three months and continued to "Camp Lucky Strike" for the end of hostilities.
Bob was discharged on Valentine's Day 1946. While in the Army he received the Bronze Star and the Victory Medal among many others. He loved his country.
Bob returned from war and then worked for LOF in Rossford for 42 years, where he was an hourly foreman, then salaried manager of the Electrical Shop. Bob retired from LOF at the age of 62.
Bob and his family were boaters and were able to enjoy his boat – "Nuzzys Huzzy" far into his retirement years. While enjoying his boating years, Bob taught numerous kids how to water-ski mostly while vacationing with friends and family at Mileys Lodge in Bellaire, Michigan. Bob's winter activities included designing stained glass items, duck carving, bowling, coin collecting and, of course, the local horse racing venues. He also coached JR League Baseball.
Bob was an honored 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite for 60 years where he entered on June 26, 1946, passed Sept 11, 1946, and raised on Sept 28, 1946.
Bob had many old and new friends. When he and Donna moved to Lambertville into a condo to make life "easier", they opened up their hearts to many new friends and neighbors who have been so very kind, generous and loving.
Bob is survived by his children, daughter, Robyn G Seymour (Guy) of Temperance, MI; Timothy M Nusbaum (Virginia) of Boca Raton, FL; sister, Barbara Fewster (Tom) of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Brett Seymour (Julie), Stacy Chesney (Abe), Holly Nusbaum, Shari Viox (Tim); and 7 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Ruth and brothers, Jerry and John Nusbaum.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2 – 7:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Bob would like his epitaph to read – "he served his family and country well". Certainly his family and his many friends would wholeheartedly agree.
