Sharon Thornton, age 72, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2023 at home with loving family by her side. She was born on January 11, 1951 to Joseph and Susan (Warnock) Zelienka in Chicago, Illinois. Sharon graduated in 1968 from Niles West High School in Skokie, Illinois. She worked as a secretary throughout her career mainly with Rudolph Libbe/GEM Industrial. Sharon also worked at Flower Hospital in the gift shop for many years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and baking with her grandchildren. Sharon loved to shop and also collect shoes, squirrels and snowmen. Her greatest passion was her family, most importantly her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Sharon's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Left to cherish Sharon's memory are her loving husband of almost 27 years, Scott Thornton; children, Kathy (Jeff) Greeno and Robert (Sandi) Lipovsky; grandchildren, Rowan, Brody, Kayla, Abigail, and McKinley; mother-in-law, Joyce Thornton; sister-in-law, Kim (Robert) McClure; brother-in-law, Doug (Wendy) Thornton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
