Thomas A. Kern, age 83, of Petersburg, Michigan passed away November 2, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born on March 26, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank Kern and Anna (McGrain) Kern. He was an entrepreneur and an owner of multiple business including Kern Electric, K Brothers, Kern-Sodco, and Maple Valley Campground just to name a few. He loved the outdoors, feeding his deer and other outdoor critters, and enjoyed entertaining at his home with his family and friends.
Thomas was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Petersburg, Michigan, a member of the IBEW Local 8 for over 52 years.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife Dolores (Welzbacher) Kern of 18 years, second wife, Lois (Heatherly) Kern of 39 years, and daughter Debbie Kern.
He is survived by his children; Julia Newton and husband Bill, John Richardson and wife Julie, Kim Lajiness and husband Steve, Scott Richardson, Steve Kern and wife Lesa, Sherry Nowak and husband Bob, Heather Fine and husband Todd, Jeff Kern, Melissa Campbell, Dawn Kern, Frank Kern and wife Nikki; 41 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brother; Jerry Kern and wife Linda; sisters: Dianna Fallon and husband Neil, Bonnie Paglialunga and husband Dominic and a host of loving extended family and friends.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with a Rosary and Eulogy starting at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin Thursday at 11:00 am. at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish, 8295 Van Aiken St., Ida, MI, 48140. Visitation at St. Gabriel will be also on Thursday 10:00 a.m. until Mass time. Entombment will be at 1:00 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital in Tom's memory.
