Keith Lamont Simmons

March 17, 1959 — October 10, 2023

Toledo has lost a very cherished resident. Keith Lamont Simmons, born on March 17, 1959, in Toledo, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023. A man of immense character, Keith's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and dedication.

Keith was the loving husband of Vera Simmons, who loved him deeply. Vera's unwavering love and support, especially during the toughest moments, were a testament to their bond. Though their time together was brief and painfully cut short, the depth of her devotion was evident to all who witnessed their journey together. Keith was also the proud father of Lakeisha Simmons whom he loved dearly and was so proud of the woman she became and whose life was enriched by her loving partner, Damien Betts. Keith grew to love and respect Damien and considered him his son. He was a doting grandfather to Ahsiekal Betts, his only grandchild and the apple of his eye. Keith also warmly embraced Stepdaughter Tina (Jon) Talbert and Stepson Will Lane.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn, and Lee Simmons; his sister, Wendy Simmons; his brother, Tony Simmons; and his son Richard Kai Simmons, who was taken too soon at childbirth. Keith is survived by his siblings Micheal Simmons, Lee (Mari) Simmons, Robin Simmons, and Shirley Larkett.

Keith's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family and work. Upon graduation from Scott High school in 1978, Keith worked for Harley's carryout as a store clerk for several years. In June of 1985 he went to work for what was then known as American Motors, but which later came to be called Jeep. A resolute employee with Jeep, he retired after 35 years in 2020. Keith loved music and grooved to enviable playlists that spanned decades! A die-hard Steelers and Ohio State fan, Sundays at the Simmons' household were reserved for football, family, and fun. Keith's infectious smile and jovial spirit made him the life of every gathering. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was fiercely protective of those he loved.

A family historian of sorts, Keith's life was enriched by countless close family members including auntie's, uncles, nieces, nephews… (all whom he loved immensely), cousins be they 1st, 2nd, 3rd, even 4th! If you were family, he knew you and loved you! He had the uncanny ability to recall stories from yesteryear, ensuring that the family's legacy was passed down through generations. He also shared special bonds with friends who became family: Anthony Ware, Wayne Cason, and Darryl Taylor. Travis Simmons and Eddy Armstrong, though family, were all tight partners, each of them added a unique chapter to Keith's story, and their memories together will be forever cherished.

In his final days, Keith was immensely grateful for the unwavering support and care provided by all his closest family members and friends who tirelessly checked in on him daily. A special acknowledgment to his Aunt Theo Simmons, his niece and nephew Danielle and Pernell Horton, whose love, care, and presence were a beacon of light as his sickness progressed. The family would also like to thank the medical team and hospice personnel at Ebeid Flower Hospice Care for their excellent service, compassionate attention, and care in his final days.

In Keith's memory, let us celebrate life with the same zest and passion he did. Let us remember him with a song in our hearts, a story on our lips, and love in our actions. Keith may no longer be with us, but his memory will forever dance in the hearts of all who knew him.

Rest in peace, Keith. Your legacy of love, laughter, and music will resonate in our hearts for years to come.
