David Alan Lenz, age 73, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by love on April 15, 2023, after battling COPD for over 10 years. David was born on September 12, 1949, in Toledo, to the late Arthur and Muriel (Van Buren) Lenz.
David graduated from Bowsher High School, class of 1968. Through the years, he worked at Josephs, Food Town, Farmer Jack, Alexis Road Marathon, and most recently, Meijer, where he had been for 18 years, where he was a union steward. A man of faith, David was an active member of St. Clement Catholic Church, where he was an usher, Eucharistic minister, and also served on the parish council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. David loved sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. He also loved his cat, Simba, who greatly misses David. Most of all, he loved being a dad. He loved going to his kids' sporting events cheering them on and supporting them in all endeavors. David was an amazing, loving, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather. His smile and love will forever be missed by those who knew him. This isn't goodbye, this is see you later…
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sue Alverson-Lenz, whom he married on June 21, 1986; beloved triplets, Melissa Lenz (Alex Borland), David Lenz (Jordan) and Emma Wittman (Cody); grandchildren, Greyson, Makenzie, Caiden, Paisley, and a grand-kitty, Cappuccino; his furry companion, Simba; and a brother, Jeff Lenz.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Muriel Lenz and his grandparents.
Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, where there will be a prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 10:30 am, at St. Clement Catholic Church, 3030 Tremainsville Rd, Toledo, Ohio 43613. David will be laid to rest at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hudson, Michigan.
