Virginia C. Smithhisler, age 96, of Toledo, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023 at ProMedica Skilled Nursing. She was born on June 30, 1926 in Toledo, Ohio. Virginia worked at Libbey Glass until getting married, staying home and raising her family. She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and strong in her faith. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating, bowling and sewing. Virginia and her husband, Lawrence often took their family on vacations to Florida; a favorite pastime they will always remember. She was active in arts and crafts, an excellent cook and baker and one of the best caregivers. Virginia's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Smithhisler; and sisters, Joan and Teresa. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Judy Winhoven; son, John (Hiroko) Smithhisler; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
