Donald Edward Waggoner Sr., age 84, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, and went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 24, 2023. He was born on December 20, 1938, to the late Melvin Waggoner and Dorothy (Wright) Davis and Joseph and Martha (Crosby) Waggoner, an uncle who raised him as their own.
Donald graduated from Sandusky St. Mary's, class of 1956. He enlisted in the Navy and proudly served from August 3, 1956 - August 3, 1962. During that time, he did 90 days USS Forrestal, CV-59, Squadron VA-43, 90 days USS Ranger, CV-61, Squadron VA-43, and Ships Company aboard the USS Wasp, CVS-18, V2 Division. Donald worked at Sandusky Foundry and Machine, before moving to Toledo, where he worked at Haughton Elevator for five years, Toledo Machine and Die for nine years, and Toledo Moulding and Die for over 20 years, where he retired on January 11, 2004.
A man of faith and a devout Catholic, he was a Eucharist Minister and Liturgical Assistant for ten years.
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving children, Candy Waggoner-Andres (Thomas), Constance Waggoner-Brown (Robin), Donald Waggoner, Jr. (Mary) and Ted Cooper (Judy); sisters, Charlene Mantey, Sharon Davis, and Jean who resides in England; brothers, Leonard Waggoner, Geoffrey Waggoner, Melvin Waggoner, Jr., Tim Waggoner, Brian Waggoner, John Davis and Jesse Davis; grandchildren, Misty Buschor, Destiny Jones, Channing Waggoner, Donald Waggoner, III, Mason Waggoner, Jeffery Cooper, Steven Cooper, Jennifer Morgan, Thomas Buck, Jr., Cory Buck; great-grandchildren, Austin and Braelyn Jones, Evaleigh and Leighton Buschor, Isaiah Waggoner, Justin and Katie Cooper, Thomas Newman and Cory Buck, Jr.
Donald was preceded in death and greeted in Heaven by his loving wife who passed on January 20, 2023, Vallie (Ishmael) Waggoner, whom he married on March 7, 1970, together they can celebrate their wedding anniversary; parents, Melvin Waggoner and Dorothy (Wright) Davis and uncle, Joseph and Martha (Crosby) Waggoner; brothers, Ronald Waggoner, Matthew Waggoner, and David Wilch; daughter, Sarah "Sally" Jaso (Cooper); granddaughter, Julie (Buck) Escarsega; great grandsons, Jesse Buck-Gambrell and Thomas Alan Buck III.
Family and friends may visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623, on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm, along with Military Honors. Donald will be laid to rest, next to Vallie, at Toledo Memorial Park.
