Evelyn P. Palmer, affectionally known as Sunshine, age 85, of Toledo, OH, passed away February 16, 2023 at ProMedica Ebeid Hospice. Evelyn was born May 14, 1937 in Elizabeth City, NC, to James Edmond and Sylvia (Downing) Grandy, Sr. She was employed with the Darlington Nursing Home for more than 17 years. She was a member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church Church of North Carolina in her early childhood. Evelyn had many talents in her lifetime; she served as a Barber, Seamstress, Custodian, her best asset, a Cook, and was a member of the 3 Keys Singing Group, alongside her dear friends, Dolores and Betty. She was known for her 7 Up Pound Cakes and Sweet Potato Pies, often referred to as "the best thing you'd ever taste".
Evelyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Sunshine was stern but loving. She was not one to mince words but she believed in what was right in spite of whom it was. She had an infectious smile and loving personality, hence why she was our Sunshine.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 25 years, Jimmie Walker Palmer, six brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by her children, Shari Stokley, William K. (Denise) Stokley, Yolanda (Andrew) Hannah, Robert P. (Renita) Stokley; step-children, Cynthia Palmer and Greg (Jeanette) Palmer; grandchildren, Sateirdra Russell, Reginald Jordan, Kareem Stokley, Robert Joynes, Juanita (Darnell) Alexander, Kimberly Daley, Jenea (Victor) Gaston, Chanese (Jimmy) Davis, Tyquan Walker, Katherine Joynes, Christian Hannah, Terrance Stokley, Tracy McKenzie, Tarif Doyle, Taki Woods, Ian Palmer, Greg Palmer, Jr., and Corey Palmer, great-grandchildren, Akeila Stokley, Reginald Jordan, III, Zachary Murillo, and Amber Stokley and a host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
