Floyd Simms, age 77, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on December 30, 2022, at Lakes of Sylvania. He was born on March 17, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Florian and Gertrude (Kolacz) Zmijewski.
Floyd graduated from Macomber Vocational High School, class of 1963. He worked as a dedicated employee for Toledo Showcase and Volmar's Kitchens. Due to Multiple Sclerosis, Floyd had to take an early retirement in the early 80's. A retired cabinetmaker and model railroader for over 55 years, he had a beautiful train layout, in his home, which had been open for tours, in conjunction with the National Narrow Gauge Convention. His famous train layout was published in the centerfold of Model Railroader magazine. Floyd had his own business called Mr. Plaster, where he made scenery items for train layouts. He was a member of Toledo Model Railroad Engineers Club since 1984. Trains have been a lifelong hobby that Floyd enjoyed, as well as lighthouses.
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife of 32 years, Carol (Ray) Simms, whom he married on May 19, 1989; children, Cheri (Cindy Ginter) Simms, Pam (Kirk) Gossett, Keith (Sarah) Simms, Don Anderson and Jonathan Anderson; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings, Danny, Chris, and Johnny; brother-in-law, Ralph; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
