Brona M. Johnson, age 82, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2018 at Heartland of Perrysburg surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 12, 1936 to Richard Belcher and Ms. Eugene Lane in Toledo. Brona was a graduate of Scott High School and then went on to obtain her nursing degree. She worked as an LPN for over 40 years before retiring, spending most of her career at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center along with private care. Brona was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church where she trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isis. Brona then went on to join the Clarence Smith Community Chorus for 43 years.
Brona owned and operated Resourceful Weddings where she provided complete services for weddings. This was her dream job, which she loved. She also free lanced teaching students English at Stautzenberger College. Brona's lifelong dream was to decorate a float in the Rose Bowl parade, which she accomplished. She enjoyed worldwide traveling, including to Europe, Barbados and Paris. Brona loved music and dancing and was a people person. She never met a stranger. She participated in the Jamie Farr Classic and Hands Across America. Brona was also a writer for the first African American paper, the Bronze Raven in Toledo, which was started by her father, Richard Belcher.
Brona is survived by her brothers, Benjamin (Heather) Lane and Keith Belcher; loving children, Kevin Michael (Darlene) Lane, Lesli Rodgers, Brenda (Osceola) Russell, Brona Lynn Reynolds, Robert (Jackie) Johnson, Jr., Bethany (David) Brooks, Mark (Jameelah) Johnson, Roy Johnson, and Adleigh (Maurice) Fields; step-children, Vell (Ronald) Blanton, Ann (Keith) Johnson, and Eddie (Willa) Norrils; special aunt, Mimia Allen; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other extended family members and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert Johnson; sister, Rebecca Holly; brother, Eugene Lane; daughter, Florene Johnson; grandson, Victor Russell; son-in-law, Sooleh Rodgers; and step-son, Luther Norrils.
The family will receive guests on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer – Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bible Temple, 3327 Airport Hwy., Toledo, OH 43609 with gathering from 9:30 – 10:00 a.m. at church. Interment will follow in Forest Cemetery.
