Mary Catherine Nowel

Mary Catherine Nowel, age 70, of Sylvania, passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born on May 26, 1948 to Edmund and Madeleine (Flanigan) Degnan in Toledo. She was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy and also the University of Toledo, Bachelor of Education. Mary worked for 20 years for Lucas County Job and Family Services, retiring in 2015. She was a current member of Little Flower of Jesus and in her spare time she was an enthusiastic shopper and enjoyed tending to her garden.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Martinez and Sarah (Michael) Barker; grandchildren, Jaqui (Jake) Cessna, Berkley Goins and Madelyn Barker; great-grandson, Oliver; sister, Fran Tarsha; brother, Tom (Robin) Degnan and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Her Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Epiphany of the Lord - St. Stephen Church, 1880 Genesee St. (corner of Genesee and Consual), with visitation in the narthex of the church from 9 a.m. until time of Mass. Very Rev. Michael A. Geiger, VF officiating.
