Ronald J. "Ron" Woods, age 82, of Toledo, passed away peacefully January 25, 2017. He was born on April 7, 1934 to Edmund and Beatrice (Robideaux) Woods in Toledo. Ron was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a roofer for nearly 40 years and retired from Nordmann Roofing in 1992. Ron also taught at the Roofing Apprenticeship School. He was a member and Past President of the Construction Workers Local #134. Ron was a longtime, active member of Little Flower Parish for nearly 60 years. Among his church activities, he was a Eucharist Minister and a bingo volunteer. Ron was very involved with retreats including; Cursillo, T.E.C., C.F.M., Renew, P.A.L. and C.R.H.P. Among his volunteer work was Boy Scouts of America, Give Kids The World and Civic Singers. Ron enjoyed playing shuffleboard, cards, being in his workshop working with his hands, making birdhouses and feeding the birds. One of Ron's favorite holidays was Halloween. He loved being with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and sharing his humor and sweet treats. Ron loved the time he spent with his friends and family for 33 years at the Lake House in Coldwater, MI. He and his wife were snowbirds in Florida for 21 years.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gerry; children, Ric (Darlene), Al (Mary Beth), Cindy Kretz, Tina (Johnny) DeLeon, Jim (Jeanne) and Teri McGinnis; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Greenich, Carol Inman and Pam DeSot; brother-in-law, Ralph (Pam) Kasprzyk; and many other family members and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard; and son-in-law, Dan Kretz.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Little Flower Parish, 5522 Dorr St., Toledo, OH 43615 with visitation one hour prior in church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
