Gary L. Long, Sr., age 67, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 after a long battle of cancer, with Annette by his side. He was born on December 1, 1948 to Richard and Marian (Braun) Long in Toledo. Gary was employed with Hydromatic for 18 years. He was a member of Local 134. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, loving to fish, hunt and mushrooming. He was a die-hard Nascar fan, especially of Jeff Gordon and of Alabama football. Gary loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Long, Jr.; and siblings, Ron, Ed and Sherry Long. Gary is survived by his loving girlfriend of 27 years, Annette Poulson; son, Geoff Long; step-children, C.J. and Jackie Basilius; grandchildren, Amiah, Austin and Carl; brothers, Dick (Vicki) and Jeff Long; sisters-in-law, Gloria Long and Diane Cheloff; nieces he shared a special bond with, Ronda Kucinski and Gina Long; and 8 other nieces and nephews and many close and dear friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, November 18th, 2016 from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. at UAW Local 14 Hall, 5411 Jackman Rd., Toledo, OH 43613 for a Celebration of Life for Gary. Please join them for food, fellowship and an adult beverage to share a memory in honor of Gary. The Newcomer Funeral Home – NW Chapel assisted the family with professional services.
