Herbert Rae "Robbie" Robertson, age 81, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at his home August 31, 2016. He was born March 23, 1935 in North Conway, New Hampshire. He married Joan Robertson on June 27, 1970. A very important goal for him was "to live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man," and through the years they hosted several high school students who were part of the University of Toledo Darmstadt, Germany student exchange. Other adults lived with them for significant time periods also.
Robbie loved being a Food Service Administrator and he worked initially at a country club in Washington D.C., also with the Marriott Corporation in D.C. and Dallas, Texas. He also worked at a large nursing home in Syracuse, NY and with the upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and Flower Hospital in Toledo. In his later years, Robbie and his wife owned Basic Fore, Inc., a dietary consulting service for nursing homes and hospitals.
Robbie is survived by his wife, Joan E. Robertson; siblings, Stanley (Irma) Robertson, Mary Ellen Wallace and Harold (Patricia) Robertson and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robbie was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Amand.
Robbie was a person who loved life and loved people, and was able to travel to numerous countries.
The family will receive guests, Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Toledo Mennonite Church, 5501 Nebraska Ave, Toledo, Ohio 43615 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Doctors without Borders or Mennonite Central Committee in Robbie's memory.
